The National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST), one of Pakistan’s premier higher education institutions, has announced exciting career opportunities for its newly established NUST Chip Design Centre (NCDC).

This is a prestigious, PSDP-funded project aimed at supporting and enhancing the fabless chip design ecosystem in Pakistan. Located at the NUST H-12 Campus in Islamabad, the project is seeking passionate, talented, and highly qualified professionals to join its core and support teams.

1. NCDC Core Staff (Technical & Academic)

Professor (PPS-09)

  • No. of Positions: 1x
  • Salary: Market-competitive salary as per the PPS-Scale.
  • Role Summary: The ideal candidate will possess extensive academic and/or industrial expertise in chip design and tape-outs. They must demonstrate strong leadership qualities with a proven track record of training, mentoring, and leading advanced research teams within this specialized domain.
  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Collaborate actively with academic and industry partners to drive continuous innovation and excellence in chip design and verification.
    • Spearhead cutting-edge research initiatives and foster strategic industry partnerships to advance chip design development globally.
    • Lead, manage, and oversee complex chip design projects within the design group, ensuring the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and innovation.
  • Minimum Eligibility Criteria:
    • Qualification: PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a strictly relevant discipline.
    • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in chip design, which must include significant leadership and managerial roles.
    • Skills: Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, strategic thinking, outstanding communication, presentation, and reporting skills.

Consultant (PPS-09)

  • No. of Positions: 1x

  • Role Summary: This role requires a highly experienced professional with a deep background in academic or industrial chip design, tape-outs, and leadership. The candidate must be capable of steering advanced research and guiding the core technical team.
  • Key Responsibilities:

Associate Professor (PPS-08)

  • Role Summary: The ideal candidate must have solid academic or industrial experience in chip design and tape-outs, combined with a passion and ability to train, teach, and mentor students and junior engineers.
  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Coordinate with the technical team toward achieving the core project objectives of the NCDC.
    • Build and sustain a strong ecosystem for chip-design training, which includes teaching, assessments, execution, and curriculum design to scale up the number of highly qualified professionals in Pakistan.
    • Oversee and actively execute day-to-day chip design tasks within the allocated design group.
  • Minimum Eligibility Criteria:
    • Qualification: PhD or MS in Engineering (Electrical Engineering / Computer Engineering) or a relevant discipline.
    • Experience: More than 5 years (>5 years) of hands-on experience in the chip design sector.
    • Skills: Strong analytical acumen, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication and reporting skills.

Assistant Professor (PPS-07)

  • No. of Positions: 2x
  • Salary: Market-competitive salary as per the PPS-Scale.
  • Role Summary: Seeking dynamic professionals with academic or industrial experience in chip design and tape-outs who are capable of lecturing, training, and guiding students in high-level design methodologies.
  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Lead and successfully implement specialized chip-design projects side-by-side with the core design team.
    • Establish a robust chip-design training ecosystem, taking charge of content design, execution, exit testing, and regular reporting to boost the skilled workforce in this domain.
    • Partner and collaborate with similar external setups and university faculties to enhance project outcomes.
  • Minimum Eligibility Criteria:
    • Qualification: PhD or MS in Engineering (Electrical Engineering / Computer Engineering) or a relevant discipline.
    • Experience: Proven technical experience in handling chip-design projects and training environments.
    • Skills: Strong analytical thinking, solid problem-solving skills, and excellent classroom management/communication capabilities.

Lab Engineer (PPS-07)

  • No. of Positions: 1x (In Core Team)
  • Salary: Market-competitive salary as per the PPS-Scale.
  • Role Summary: The selected candidate will focus on the practical, hands-on side of the lab. They must have direct experience in chip design, tape-outs, and a deep working knowledge of Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools and laboratory testing equipment.
  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Handle the procurement of highly technical chip testing lab equipment after conducting thorough technical studies and comparative evaluations.
    • Assist project team members directly with lab experiments, testing procedures, and documentation.
    • Design and test Integrated Circuits (ICs) for various specific applications.
    • Maintain strict lab safety and operational standards at all times.
    • Formulate an end-to-end operational mechanism and structural policies to offer lab testing facilities to external users.
    • Assist in all overall activities initiated by the NCDC.
  • Minimum Eligibility Criteria:
    • Qualification: BS or MS in Engineering (Electrical Engineering / Computer Engineering), MS Project Management, or a relevant discipline.
    • Experience: More than 3 years (>3 years) of active experience working in a dedicated chip design lab or a highly similar electronic testing environment.
    • Skills: High-tier technical expertise, acute attention to detail, and top-tier collaboration skills.

2. NCDC Support Staff (Administrative)

File Management Clerk (PPS-03)

  • No. of Positions: 1x
  • Salary: Market-competitive salary as per the PPS-Scale.
  • Role Summary: Responsible for maintaining organized internal operations, managing records, and executing routine administrative tasks smoothly to support the core technical team.
  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Accurately receive, systematically sort, and promptly distribute incoming mail and packages.
    • Prepare outgoing mail and parcels by packing them securely and arranging courier delivery.
    • Utilize existing filing frameworks to arrange and carefully preserve both physical and digital files.
    • Perform reliable, accurate data entry into designated document management systems or electronic databases.
    • Maintain seamless, professional lines of communication regarding mail and file management with internal departments.
    • Respect all organizational regulations regarding data confidentiality, exercising extreme caution when handling sensitive materials.
    • Undertake any additional tasks assigned by the HR Manager or the Accounts Officer.
  • Minimum Eligibility Criteria:
    • Qualification: At least FA, FSc, or an equivalent intermediate Diploma.
    • Experience: Practical knowledge of digital office tools, registry systems, and database entry management.
    • Skills: Highly organized, observant, trustworthy, with solid interpersonal and office communication skills.
